Just found out my dad got laid off - with one year left till he's eligible for retirement.
You can't tell me they don't consider age when they're figuring out who to lay off, whether they're allowed to or not. Bastards.

I'm sorry for that. Where a family member and his best friend worked did the same thing. Company from Japan came in, bought the place and laid off EVERYONE over 55 years of age.
I'm taking care of his mortgage as he's just got 2 years left on it. Once it's paid he can survive working part time, but damn, Not the retirement he hoped.
Wow. Now there's a good basis for an age discrimination lawsuit. I hope everything works out for them.
Dad did get lucky in one sense - they own the house outright (inherited from my grandparents), and I'm pretty sure they gave him a decent severance package (with a non-disclosure clause, of course).
Unfortunately, it's not quite enough to get him all the way to retirement age, so they'll have a couple of lean months - and I'm not in a position to help out, either.
